Virgin, btw, could be either sex. So if you are a man or a woman wanting to become a Muslim and quickly do whatever is required to claim your 72 virgins, sorry to tell you that there isn't a single verse in the HQ that I'm aware of which promises 72 virgins anywhere to anybody for anything. So it's back to the matrimonial columns or agencies I'm afraid.

    • Apparently it is in the Hadiths. When virgins are mentioned in Abrahamic texts, the overwhelming majority of the time, word used in the original language denotes a female.

    • Your question asked for reference from the HQ and I answered accordingly. I haven't come across such a Hadith, yet. Anyway, what would YOU do with 72 virgins a la Abrahamic languages?

    • I was quoting the first answer on this. I wouldn't do anything with 72 virgins in the Abrahamic sense, except set them free to their own self-determination. Oh, and I'm tagging you down...hope you understand...nothing personal...just being fair (tagged me down a -3 for a perfectly fair question).

    • What if they were looking forward to being with you and serving you?
      .
Oh I must say that's very honest of you to own up to tagging. Usually I get tagged by phantom taggers. Curious (Wiccan?) logic though - someone tags you so you tag me (happy to oblige, really) even though I had nothing whatsoever to do with your getting tagged - I actually dislike tagging. If you don't like a question or answer just let the author know why. He/she may or may not have a satisfactory explanation but at least he/she will know what upset you.

    • Uh, I'm not stupid, Borasalama. This question is old, and rarely visited. I was tagged down at exactly the same time you last commented for exactly the amount of points your level would allow you to downrate. As for the virgins, I'm not lesbian. Even if I were, I'm not into collecting and treating people like possessions. Serving me? That's sick, frankly. (BTW, there is no society where women truly have free choice - economic, social, etc pressures free - where all they look forward to is being one of 72 women to please someone. Would you want to be one of 72 male virgins who looked forward to being with and serving the same woman?)

    • AR you've just let me down for 2 reasons.
      .
1 I thought you were a reasonably logical kind of person (I still want to believe that you are). You must know there are likely to be many people on AB with 24/7 access to your postings and you must also know that a lot of them are likely to have the same points rating level as I. Yet despite that just because you got tagged by my points rating level and at the same time I posted my comment you are 100% sure it was I.
      .
2 and this is really sad to know. Whereas I haven't and still don't take you for a liar, you have taken me for one. It is quite insulting and it does hurt, but no problem.
      .
As for your question, I haven't really given it much thought. But, the question of authenticity aside, these 72 V's can't be ex earthlings, can they? There just wouldn't be enough to go around if each ex earthling in heaven were to have 72 ex earthlings as his/her V's. The V's must be special heavenly creatures kept in waiting to receive and entertain their special ex earthling. Do you get me? What do you think?

    • Mind elaborating on them? I'll even go first on how you've let me down: the downrate, and the support of the idea that anyone would willingly and fully want nothing more than to be one of 72 other people 'serving' anyone else.

    • I think you leapfrogged my last comment before I finished.

    • As for your last comment, any cognizant self-aware being should not be the eternal servant - particularly sexual - of any other being. As for your point #1 - I am logical. That is why I do not think that this question, which gets activity less than once every 2 weeks, and usually less than once a month, had 2 people on it simultaneously: you, and whomever rated me down. That would also require the further coincidence of the person either having your exact level, or downrating the exact amount that you can. As I said, each were done within 1 minute of the other (your comments and the downrate).

    • 1 I have not observed so I don't really know - perhaps you can confirm - are comment posting times shown in minutes or hours?
      .
2 If I objected to your question would I be inclined to answer it? And if I answered wouldn't my objection show in my answer?
      .
3 If I wanted to downrate the question I'd surely do it at the answering stage when the offending question was still fresh in my mind rather at the comment stage when we would have started to drift away from the question.
      .
4 the way you cut in on my comment should prove to you that it is not impossible for two people to respond within (according to you) one minute of each other. We did it within microsecond of each other - well actually your posting appeared right in between the start and finish of my posting.
      .
5 I could give you a max downrate now and that would show that it wasn't I the first time round, but I'd prefer not to 'prove' you wrong. I'd rather you accepted that I'm not lying.

    • 1. They are shown in minutes until they can be shown in hours. 2. The downrate was right after you read my comment about the Hadiths, to which you objected. 3. I cut into your comment because the two of us were having a conversation, and it shows up on my activity. No one else commented at the time I was downrated, nor have they for quite a long time. This question is almost a year old. 3. I'll trust you, but I'd rather you demonstrated that the trust was warranted.

    • Oh, and I would also appreciate it if you would give a Muslim perspective on this question. The article says that this is not an Islamic practice, but it is a cultural remnant that exists in the Middle East. I would be interested in hearing a Muslim perspective on it: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/768870

    • OK I'll follow the link and have a go at the question.
      .
Regarding my response to your comment about the Hadith - I just checked it up - how could you read objection into that. I just reminded you that your question referred to HQ not Hadith. Also I ended my comment with a friendly question as a joke.
      .
Anyway, here's my downrate, please confirm it.

    • Pl acknowledge my temporary downrating which I've given you to convince you that it wasn't I that downrated you previously. And btw I've posted an answer to your question related to that curious veiling article.

    • I don't know if you noticed but I gave a temporary downrate to your question so that you'd know for certain I wasn't fibbing when I denied downrating you the first time. Sorry I couldn't wait any longer for your confirmation. I have now cancelled the downrate (just hope you did see it) and have uprated your question instead.
