How strong is the link between heavy metals and autism?

    Probably nil. About 90% is thought to be genetically caused, and 10% caused by environmental factors. Heavy metals are one of many possible but unproven environmental factors currently being investigated. There is no scientific evidence that the vaccine preservative thiomersal helps cause autism, for example.
