Finally. An intelligent answer that does not sound like members of one Christian sect rubbishing another.

To make this answer make any sense, it is probably better for you to give your definition of "Christian".

Accept the Catholic church wasn't formed 1900 years ago, it was about 1700 years ago, and Catholic literally means Universal. They created one 'Universal' faith that Christians and Pagans and Jews and all could tolerate, but in the doing, they gave up many things of the true church, that was one of the key parts of the apostacy.

I think it is important to note that Catholics believe they were not formed 1700 years ago, they believe their church started with Christ's earthly ministry, and in respect to the promise made to Peter that the gates of hell would not prevail against it has remained on the earth since that time. To Catholics the counsil of Nicea was not a starting of their church but a refining of their creeds and doctrines.
So how has the church survived, and prevented the gates of hell from prevailing? Was it through an unbroken succession of popes from Peter to today? Or was it from a restoration of priesthood authority as Peter passed on keys he recieved from Christ to the prophet Joseph Smith?
That... is a very important question, worthy of prayer I would suggest.
