American LaFrance ( Http://www.AmericanLaFrance.Com ) is the company most well known for producing Fire Engines in the US.

Many Fire Engines are also custom built, designed for the needs of a specific area. A ladder truck that can reach up 30 stories probably isn't going to be needed in rural Vermont, therefore, many large truck manufacturers, such as International, Mack, and Freightliner, produce rolling chassis that consist of a cab without a rear wall and bare frame so that the customer can build whatever is needed.

Often times, if you pass a Ford, Chevrolet, or Dodge dealer you will see smaller versions of rolling chassis, usually with the front end of a pick-up truck or full-size van mounted to them. These vehicles can also be used for smaller Emergerncy Response Vehciles, such as ambulances, and trucks needed to go off roading.
