Pick your major carefully and you don't have to worry at all about paying back 80K. Student loans are no big deal to pay back. First year out of school i am making 60K. But everyone is right about juggling where you spend money. I just graduated and went a little crazy b/c i got 60K to spend. Rent in my new place is 16K/year, little high but the place is so awesome. Then i got my 4K signing bonus in the mail and booked a trip to south America, can't wait to get my annual bonus, guys at work say its another 2K. I figure i have earned it to go a little wild for a short period of time. Anyway, my point is that i could live on 20K/year and pay the rest to student loans, but i worked in college and have none (i made 20/hour as an engineer intern). My degree in engineering definitely paid off. Four years of pain and torture for a sweet place and now i and making engines for a living. (most engineers make 55-65k first year out).

If you got your heart set on something like teaching, then listen to everyone else. Very hard to live and pay off debt at 28K/year. Don't listen to the liberal arts people, pick your major b/c of money. They are harder majors, but so worth it. Some of my friends have to move back in with mom and dad b/c they can't find a job with a history degree, no shit. Image how long its going to take them to pay back their student loans while managing a McDonald's.
