New Piper is in the process of developing the PiperJet, which is a very light jet (VLJ) with a single engine located at the base of the vertical stabilizer (think DC-10). Cirrus in also in the process of developing a VLJ, also a single-engine aircraft known as The-Jet by Cirrus. Cirrus mounts the single engine flush to the top of the fuselage on the centerline, and ducts the exhaust, from the slight downward angle it would have following the contours of the body, a few degrees to straight horizontal. The-Jet uses a V-tail, similar to the old Bonanzas.
