    • Yes, The first public school in America was established by Puritan settlers in 1635 in the home of Schoolmaster Philemon Pormont. But he did not teach humanics as some weird reinvet history websites say. That is a 20th century word. No meaning in 1635...Did he teach Latin...yes...from the bible. He was teaching the word of God so people have a general understanding of right and wrong.Today we sacifice truth for a weak tolorance socity!
