Very few non-Muslim Americans have read the Koran. I too have failed to do so, although it is on my reading list and hopefully I will get around to it, or significant portions of it soon.

I think that it is immensely ignorant and rude of us as a society to not try to educate ourselves more about the culture of Islam.

But because our public schools do not do so, I am obligated to self-educate. I am 42 and have yet to do so. I feel that this is just as much my fault as it is the public school system's fault.

I have two brothers who practice the Muslim faith and have had Ramadan with clients of mine. I have worked with and known Muslims from this country, from Africa, and from the Middle East. I have known Muslims from below the poverty line, those who were extremely wealthy, and many in between. I do not believe that I am as ignorant as some, but more ignorant than is beneficial for my country.

    • Bor, I can always look to you for civil discourse even in the face of other's emotional and at times 'borderline' ad hominem attacks.
