I agree mostly but unsure what you mean through baptism.

Baptism, immersion in water. Covered (not sprinkled) and brought back up. Analogous to bathing/ being washed clean, death and resurrection(for we are one with Christ through baptism sharing in His resurrection). Its at that point you receive the Holy Spirit. Yes, actually. The Holy Spirit will reside in you/ with you, directing you, communicate with God for you (because we do not know how we ought to pray- thats scripture). I recall my baptism. I had no clue. Immediately after I was raised out of the water I felt a spark- a change. I was almost giddy- as giddy as a 12 yr old boy could be I guess. I could not stop smiling. Something was different- and I attribute that to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Dont confuse it with possession, as by demons or evil spirits. Once a person believes and acts on the confessed belief by being baptised the Holy Spirit abides WITH you- as a go between- an translator for you and God.

So at baptism you become a Christian?
by peterpam on April 20th, 2008
Sorry to intervien but babtisim doesnt save you . Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart and Jesus was raised from the dead you shall be saved.

Its a sign of being a Christian. Its the blood of Christ that will save you. Baptism by water is just a part of showing to others, that you've began a new Life in Christ. Its the right thing to do, after giving your life to Christ. But Baptism by water alone will not get you into Heaven. Remember the one's who died along side of Christ. One was told by Jesus that he would meet Him again in Heaven.

King, Rom 10:9 has to be read with the context. It was written to christians, it is not attempting to teach the plan of salvation. Rom 10:10 ...with the mouth confession is made unto (toward) salvation. Confession, while necessary, does not save.

To find the plan of salvation we can look at Acts 2:37-38 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, men and brethern, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
They believed the message of Peter but there was something more required, Repenting and being baptized.

1 Pet 3:21 The like figure, whereunto, baptism, doth also now save us, (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh. But the answer of a good conscience toward God.) Which means its not a bath to wash away dirt but an act of obediece to the command of God.
