If 50,000,000 Americans can vote for their favorite "Idol" every week, why do so few turn out to vote for their state and country's leaders? Do we need to have "Online Voting" or "Text Message Voting" to get people to give a crap?

Since most of it merely involves calling a phone number or voting online, can people from other countries vote in American Idol, Britain's Got Talent, etc.?
