Excellent answer, though I would have perhaps refrained from the use of the phrase "sucking it up". Anyway, points to Hp-Freeze, even though you probably have gone by this point, for anyone else who reads this question the answer stands. Ultimately, your health is more important than feeling embarased, and if it's a good doctor, they should make you feel at ease and make the expereince as easy as possible for you. BTW, in the clinical setting, you might be standing instead, and chances are you won't get aroused when you get there.

You do not have anything to be ashamed of, it is completely normal to have a erection and you don´t have to be ashemed of that.

I have had much more embarrassing experiences. It was a female doctor that examined my testicle. I covered my penis (doesn't everybody do that?). But then my parents (my dad esp.) got to know that a female doctor examined me. And then he talked embarrassingly about it!...
@Kris: it's NOT normal to have an erection at your doctor O_O (IMO)
Well it'd be normal if you get an erection just by being naked including your penis... But it'd be so embarrassing for me at least that i would NOT do that.
I don't think it's normal to actually show your penis to your doctor too (IMO). unless they had to examine your penis (but then comes the same problem as written above!)
