First of all why would he have to use mace? Either you keep your dog inside or you leave it in the back. You should train your dog not to be aggressive twards people and other animals. The pepper spray may cause an allergic reaction in some dogs be cause every dog is different. Thats my fact and opinion please don't feel offended.

    • Terrible answer. If a dog owner wishes to leave their dog out front, its their business and property.

    • Lisa: If the owner doesn't want spray used nor to tie up the dog then MOVE THE MAILBOX so the yard don't need to be entered

    • A dog is only as aggressive as the owner makes it. Keep in mind mailmen aren't all saints...they tend to tease dogs ALOT.

    • I agree with MikeD81's answer...my dogs are perfect saints but didn't like my former malman because he teased them frequently

    • Most mailmen would never purposely tease a dog. They are concerned with getting their route done and not getting bit.

    • Excellent answer! Though my dog is very good, he's playful & would never keep him in the front yard.

    • Depending on where you live, there is nothing wrong with your dog running freely on your own property.

    • If the owner of the dog wishes to have their dog anywhere on their property, they have the right to do so. Not only that, but many people have dogs specifically for their home's safety. Many people feel that it is that dogs job to "guard" the home, and if someone is making threatening gestures (such as teasing and putting pepper spray in the dog's eyes), then I do not consider this dog to be "aggressive towards people".

I have been training German Shepherds for guide dog and search and rescue work. My dogs are extremely submissive, calm, and obedient, and have no guarding behaviors. Yet every mailman I have ever had shows fear at my dogs, who don't even bark! If I want my dogs in my fenced in front yard, that is my business, and should I ever see a pepper spray can directed toward them you can bet your sweet ass I will file charges.

    • It is your responsibility to control your dogs. Not ahving them on leash or in a closed area is not controling them. I have 32 stiches in my buttocks from the same ignorant mentality you have. You people think you own the world and dont have to control your dog. You are one of the most selfish groups I know. Dog not on a leash owner. I have a three year old and dont enjoy going to the park or walking down the street because you people wont leash or otherwise control your dogs.
