You're reading I'm heartbroken - We have to have my dog put down. He's become unpredictable and aggressive - he attacked the 12 year old dog, unprovoked, this morning. I'm heartbroken, but I have my baby coming soon. My friends are calling us murderers. Are we wrong?

We're not talking an aggressive poodle. He's a purebred, 100 lb pit bull. The only person he listens to is Jason, and he does NOT do well around other animals. He was abused as a puppy... we rescued him, and tried to help him... but nothing's working. It's been six years.

You still have a responsibility to the pet. I feel for your situation, but I would try a pit bull rescue organization for some ideas. I just googled 'pit bull rescue' and a list of groups came up by state. Check it out - you may get some helpful (and humane) suggestions there.

She has a responsibility to other people too, if he's rehomed and attacks somebody else, perhaps kills them... then that's not good. Given it's a previously abused pit bull, I'd say the likelihood of it attacking again is relatively high.

I agree. I'm just always an advocate of exploring all possible options before putting an animal down. That way you can make an educated decision and not second guess yourself down the road.

Like Teasdale said, you should never give up on a pet so easily. There are Pit Bull rescues out there, and no kill shelters.
