Why do computers on movies not often run the Windows operating system, when it is the most common OS on the world's computers?

    It is shown sometimes, but more often the Macintosh is shown, because it is thought to have more style and prestige. It may also serve as subtle product placement for Apple, since its products are not as widely advertised as Microsoft's. Also, since Macs are more often favored by the artistic crowd, it would make sense that computers featured in a movie would be like those used by those who make the movie, the graphics people, etc.
