Theres this rumor that I keep hearing that if someone listens to music loud and frequently, if they abruptly began to listen to music quietly it would cause more damage to the ears than before because your ears are straining more to hear it, is this true?

this would be an urban legend of sorts. ears can't strain to hear things the way eyes can strain to see them. ears are passively stimulated by the vibrations of sound waves and therefore would be far more damaged by loud music. interesting idea though; i hadn't heard that one.

    • Good answer. Tractors, shooting (especially military), loud engines of any type. These will all damage hearing.
