Ex - racehorses can, and are successfully retrained as normal riding horses, excelling in dressage, sj, cross country and riding club activities.
However, these horses are not for the "average" rider. They are pedigree thoroughbreds, bred for speed and not safety. They can be prone to bolting, whipping round and can be very highly strung so are only suitable for experienced horepersons.
In the right hands, these horses can be great and its a shame so many give up on them.
