Why don't women like to tell their age?

Could it be that society generally admires youth and beauty, and so if a woman has looked after herself she wouldn't want to destroy the illusion by confessing to her real age?
Having said that, my philosophy is to add five years if anyone asks in the hope they'll think I look good for my age!
