Answers. Showing one answer.

  • Oldest Child: Always the example. Always experimented on. Always made in charge.

Middle Child: The ignored one. The truly highest achieving one (but who notices?) The one who never gets in trouble.

Youngest Child: The spoiled one. The one the parents spend the most time on. The one most likely to fail at everything he/she tries.

These are stereotypes, not actual roles of birth order.

    • I wolly agree! I am the eldest by a wide margin with some of my siblings. I'd been made a servant by my family in terms of house chores, babysitting (sometimes to the point of ME being the parent), punishments, etc. I've also seen some of my siblings get way more in terms of parent's time, attention, financial privileges, love, support, etc., etc.; and I hear this because our mutual "parent" (2nd marriage) has more to offer with these siblings than s(he) did with me and my whole brother; age, etc. Although I don't begruge the happiness of my parent, it has definitely been a 'challenge' at times witnessing the obvious dichotomy in parenting. I understand the 'middle child' may feel these things, but MOST DEFINITELY, in some families, the OLDEST children get the short end of the stick too!!!
