Unfortunately, no. If the doctor wants you to wear a back brace (such as the Milwaukee) then wear it religiously day & night as directed. This will help to keep your curvature from worsening somewhat. Chiropractic care can help as well with the imbalance of the pelvis bones if your curve affects them. If the curve gets too bad-or is pressing inward on your heart/lungs-then ask your doctor about Harrington Rod surgery.

Harrington Rod Surgery is where a back surgeon makes an incision and places one or two Harrington rods alongside your spine. They will stretch your spine during the surgery to correct as much of the curvature as possible then cement the rod(s) into place using bone donated preferably from the back of your hip bone. You can also donate you own blood to be used during the surgery at one pint per week for the 3-5 weeks prior to your surgery. The recuperation period varies slightly but for the most part you will be back to your normal routine in 6 months.

I was diagnosed with Scoliosis at the age of 5, wore many different braces (when I couldn't think of a good reason not to) and ultimately had to have the Harrington Rod surgery at the age of 18. The doctor had to place 2 rods alongside my spine as the curvature was so bad that one wouldn't work. I donated my own blood and bone for the operation (this was before AIDS was predominant) due to other health risks. In about 6 months after the surgery I was back to my old self and my back was feeling better than ever-no more pain.

If you do choose to have the surgery make sure that the doctor you choose does this on a regular basis and uses stainless steel rods. You should gain at least one inch during the surgery, maybe more depending on your curve.

    Good luck.
