I am 65, and whenever I hit my arm it on something, an unsightly red mark appears that looks like blood under the skin, and it remains for about 2 weeks. What causes this?

    Most of the time this is caused by persons taking blood-thinners such as aspirin on a regular basis. There is nothing to worry about as long as your doctor knows this is happening. Your doctor may decide to decrease the amount of blood thinners you are taking in order to alleviate the problem. Another cause is that as we age our skin becomes very thin making it easy to have a "blood bruise".
