How come Benjamin Franklin was never President?

    He was too old. Ben Franklin died in 1790. George Washington became President in 1789.

    • well that sucks, he is my favorite founding father, he would have made a great president...I wonder if things would be any different if so

    • I doubt things would have been much different since he was a huge influence in the beginnings of 'American politics'. It is fun though to think about because he was a creative-scientific-thinker.

    • He may have gotten his way regarding the national bird. Maybe better that things fell out the way they did.

    • actually he could have, George himself was not the first president, he was the first president under the Constitution. John Hanson was the first the President of the US (under the Articles of Confederation) in 1781 and 6 others followed him before George took the job..
