Bullying is usually about the bully needing to feel better about themselves, so they find a weaker target. However it IS extremely stressful if you happen to be the target. When I started Primary School 55 years ago I was mercilessly bullied and it continued until all those older bullies left. At high school I became a genius at making myself invisible in case it happened again (it didn't). Between this experience and my dad's bullying at home I have grown up with serious self-esteem issues, and now aged 59 I prefer my own company although outwardly it is not obvious. Life is not fair. I believe that schools are implementing a 'buddy system', whereby older students are assigned to look out for newcomers to the system...hopefully this will work. The feeling of hopelessness felt by the target is overwhelming when they are the victim of bullying for no apparent reason.
