For those of you who are "oldtimers" and played Dungeons & Dragons, did you ever construct a Dungeon wherein good deeds helped you to advance and gain more powers, or were they always centered on hacking and slaying?

back in the late 70's with AD&D 1st edition, my friend was running the game using modules and stuff. We were in some big city resting between adventures and came across some intelligent talking frog thing. It had a riddle that it was offering a prize to the person that solved it. My Ranger figured it out and won a slave girl. He freed her and ended up marrying her.
