Where does self esteem come from?

    I believe that self esteem is nurtured in children from their earliest years, with positive praise and encouragement from primarily their parents and extended family. They need to be told that they are loved and valued, and they will grow to see themselves that way. No amount of 'self esteem courses' in adulthood will erase the basic belief that you are ugly or dumb or worthless if that is what was drummed into you as a kid.
