Why is football so popular?

    It's easy to play. You can play it in very small spaces etc and it does not take huge skill to at least kick the ball. It is not very high-contact - more often than not sports which are don't have a wide playing base worldwide e.g. rugby's actual playing numbers are relatively low because it is hard to play other than seriously. Only with the invention of tag rugby did a rugby variant that could be played like casual soccer arise.
