It's great you like the southern American accents, my fiancee likes mine as well, but when other Americans hear it, they form an opinion on the person thinking we're stupid or inbred =S

Accents are funny in that way. It's the same in the UK, 'we' dislike certian accents that foreigners (and Americans!) find attractive. Perhapos ts a form of snobbery?

I personally am from Virginia in the States so I talk slowly and draw out words (I would pronounce that like, "I tawlk slowly and drawww owwt woords") but all the people I meet from the North like my accent. But what I say to the few that do judge, "I may talk slowly but that doesn't mean I'm stupid" (yes I did get that from Sweet Home Alabama)
