Why does my male cat nip the air and go wild when I scratch the base of his spine?

    Believe it or not, the cat is trying to 'help'. They can reach that area, but it is more difficult for them. All cats do this. Its completely normal, and even if he seems like he may even bite you while you scratch - he's just saying 'oh that feels good..here let me help too!" :)

    • The reaction is a mating response. Cats utilize their hind paws to scratch at this area to prepare the femail for sex
