What ever you do DO NOT TAKE OUT THE BAR!!!! If you take out the bar the infection will seal up inside your tongue and become much worse!

Mine became infected after having it for 5 years because I increased my guage without soaking the bar. My tongue swelled again and became sore and my throat down into my neck became painful. I rinsed my mouth with warm salt water atleast 3 times a day, moving the bar up and down to insure that the water went through the hole, and then lifted my tongue up to allow any pus to escape. Thats all you can do. IF it becomes so painful that you can not swollow or talk - go back to your piercer and ask what they think you should do.

    • use sea salt rise. 1/4 teaspoon per 8 oz of warm water. if you are going to use the mouth was use 1 part yellow nasty tasting mouth wash to 3 parts water. i say use the cap of the mouth wash to do the parts.

    • JulieK,
i just had my tounge pierced on saturday, it is now tuesday and i've been compulsively cleaning it every time after i eat and everything, usually with dilluted listerene. i have been eating foods such as noodles and what not but i try not to break the rules and i haven't eaten any bread that i know of.. just a couple days ago i noticed a yellow spot in the front of the piercing and i sometimes hear it's just part of the healing process.. i brushed the stuff off which was usually a liquidy deal then it turned to something that was like scar tissue, but still like a goldish yellow. think it's infected?
