    Yep, in the movie they're people. But in Harrison's original novel 'Make Room! Make Room!' it was made from SOYa beans and LENTils, hence the name. So even the movie saying it was 'miracle plankton food' to fool people into thinking they weren't eating Edward G. Robinson was wrong.

    And while we're on the subject of spoilers, in the movie the 'wafers' were squares of plywood painted green! Harry Harrison stole one from the set when he visited the set, and still has it...

    "Soylent Green is plywood!"
