I honestly believe that it is really God’s Word, preserved for us to give us all that we need to survive and to thrive in today’s world.
I read it every day.
Is there a study guide along with"Know the Bible in 30 Days"?

Christians, does the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20) still apply and still matter today? This is a follow up of my first question.

It was written by men!
by claymore04 on August 25th, 2008
God used men to write it, but the words are the inspired Words of God.
by Kal-El on August 26th, 2008
Men came up with it in their minds.
by claymore04 on August 27th, 2008
I dont believe that.

Well I do and this is where we part ways. :)

There is some 200 versions of the bible it has been rewritten so many times is it even close to the original.

I find it interesting that people can disagree on other issues (who to elect as president, abortion, Pepsi or coke, or whatever) and still remain friends, but let someone disagree with a die-hard Christian ... and they will never speak to you again. Is that what Jesus would do? Aren't we told to love one another regardless? Isn't that what Jesus did?

I believe he said love those who hate you, what reward is it to love those who love you as well.

Really? All that we need? Well screw research, technology, medicine, higher education, and economic freedom...Why don't we all just live like ignorant, sickly, destitute goat-herders?

Anybody can call themselves a christian. Does that make them a christian? And If someone acts contrary to what God expects, why do people get upset with God and people who try to follow him?
No one is perfect apart from God, not even the best christians.
The bible contains the guidelines we need, it doesn't ask you to be ignorant, sick or anything like that. Who told you that?

That's how the vast majority of people, even in the most developed nations, lived in the pre-scientific era. The romanticized portrayals of ancient peoples in movies and such, basically show only the aristocratic classes.
.
If a religious person wants to say "Science is flawed, Religion is true" - fine. But next time they are sick, they shouldn't take prescription pills. They should walk everywhere, and not use cars. They should read only the bible, not "heretical" textbooks. They should be completely unable to communicate or visit relatives on other continents...because all of those wonderful things are advents of scientific and technological progress, having nothing to do with religion.
.
(I'm not saying anyone here is a fundamentalist - but there are many people in America who are, and yet rely so much on science and technology without even acknowledging it)

I see from your comment you assume it's "the bible vs. science".
The bible has no problem with science. Science is repeateable and testable.
God created everything, perfectly, so I bet he knows how it works.
Science Sci"ence, n. [F., fr. L. scientia, fr. sciens, -entis,
p. pr. of scire to know. Cf. Conscience, Conscious,
Nice.]
1. Knowledge; knowledge of principles and causes; ascertained
truth of facts.
[1913 Webster]

There's no problem between them? Then why have church authorities consistently persecuted scientists for making discoveries against official doctrine? (Such as Copernicus, Galileo...especially Darwin, even today!)
by ACCOUNT CLOSED on November 27th, 2008
True, that they did, but that's people for you, not the bible or God. They did that out of themselves with no justification from the bible or God. What proven scientific discovery is in conflict with the bible?
Most of that was the Roman Catholic church...They also claim the pope is either Jesus in the flesh or his direct spokesperson, making the pope equal to God. I don't believe that at all and neither does the bible support that.
So basically there are ignorant people, but not due to the bible.

In your answer it seems you are trying to convince yourself(just my perception) by using words like 'honestly' and 'really' but if indeed so - then where does it state: "the following by God" - or the Gospel according to Jesus (God's Word) - or where does the Bible make these claims (look at the red letter bible to confirm). We all know without a shadow of doubt concerning some hickups in the text, so personaly I feel God is fault free. I feel it has some truth mixed with the words of ordinary men who might or might not have been so divinely inspired.

"God is not like men, who lie; He is not a human who changes his mind. Whatever he promises, he does; He speaks and it is done." - Numbers 23:19
"So the Lord changed his mind and did not bring on his people the disaster he threatened." - Exodus 32:14

Citing some random Biblical quotes is pointless, when the entire book is obviously a perfect example of conflicting interests.
.
You try to "prove" that a book is the word of God by pointing to a passage in that very book which says "this book is the word of God"...that's not very objective is it? To look at something as proof of itself!?
