You can also keep a look out for ads in the paper, websites and movie-related news outlets. Many times, if a movie is being filmed in a certain area, such as a town or city, and not a studio, they will ask for local residents and volunteers to come try out for extras casting. Its actually very simple, though the pay is usually slim to nil. As was already suggested, you should try finding an agency. There are many talent agencies out there that specialize in commercial acting and extras casting.

You should also get a professional portfolio with several 'headshots' that are basically modeling photos. Headshots usually get you noticed.
