Depolarization is the increase of membrane potential towards 60 mV caused by the opening of sodium channels in response to an action potential. Repolarization is the decreasing of the membrane potential back towards resting potential (around -60mV) caused by opening of voltage-sensitive potassium channels.

    • shouldnt the membrane potential be 70mV, and when decreasing it would be -70 mV ? we're preparing for midterms in biology 3201, and the book says 70mV ? :s
