You're reading Why are books such as Huckleberry Finn and Lord of the Flies now on banned book lists for schools?

And I respect that they want to protect children from reading such hateful words as those. But, wouldn't it be also, if taught in the correct context, a good way of explaining to students that this WAS history, and people WERE treated as harshly and immorally as this...and that is why we do not use such derogatory remarks? I have a BS in Middle School education, and while I am not teaching now, I could never understand why these historical fiction books were banned.

They were banned because some like to sterilize history. Sadly it's the same ones who keep screaming that we should "never forget". Anyone got the phone number to Sharpton or JJ?

I read Huck Finn in school, and in 7th grade my friends' english class read LOTF. I didn't read it, but it definitely wasn't banned at that point. I don't see the reason behind banning books at all. I've read much worse in school than those!
