If I'm understanding you, you're saying that you're getting a disc read error when you put a game in the PS 2 and you think the laser isn't working.

If it's under warranty, you can return it to Sony to be fixed.

If it's not, you can ship it to Sony for repairs but my understanding is that it costs something like $130 to do that.

Another option is cleaning the lens on the laser yourself. Bear in mind that I'm assuming that's the problem -- I can't say that with 100% certainty.

I've done this on my own PS 2 -- you have to be delicate but it's not terribly complicated.

Doing it on your own will void the warranty but if the warranty is still good, you can get Sony to fix it anyway.

If you're going to do it on your own, just use your favorite search engine and search "clean ps2 lens" or something like that. This is a common problem so the directions are pretty easy to find.

Go slowly and carefully when you do it. Good luck.

    • I'm not an expert on this but from what I learned while I was looking up info on cleaning the lens, that would seem to be the next step. Sorry if I wasn't reading your question accurately.
