Do stores (e.g. Sam's Wholesale Club specifically)have the legal right to stop shoppers exiting the store and examine their purchases and receipt, absent any grounds for suspicion of shoplifting? Can they mark on the receipts which are shoppers property?

    No. You have the choice not to spend your money at their store.
