    Sketchy Mess Jeoffory

I'll answer this briefly since it's unlikely you have any opium poppies handy.

Heroin is produced through a series of chemical processes and refinement of the sap from a poppy plant. First the morphine is isolated from crude opium by being dissolved into water and then reacted with lime followed by ammonia. Then you must go through another 5 step chemical process to turn morphine into heroin, although the resulting heroin isn't the pure grade high-end product that can be available. That requires a much more dangerous reaction.

Before anyone jumps on my case for supplying this information let me just say that this is all publicly available at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroin#Production_and_trafficking and that I have not given enough information to complete the process. I only outlined the basic procedure in case it was an educational question.

    • It's not a dangerous reaction, you just reflux morphine with acetic anhydride and purify. You can do it in your kitchen... I did.
