    Install any of these or the other software solutions mentioned.
    MPlayer (great for transcoding stuff)
    OSD Xine (great Window$ format support, inc. asf and wmv)
    Gtv
    XMovie
    Totem

    Most video apps include a broad range of codec support, over and above the codec libraries that are already in your system.
