Left hand if you are in Britain, Canada, the US and most other countries, but in some countries in Europe and perhaps other countries, it goes on the right hand, the one next to the pinky (on both hands).

Most European countries actually wear it on the right hand, Germany, Greece, France....Scandinavian countries. Those who wear it on the left hand usually have just adopted American and British traditions. But traditionally most European cultures.

    • my sister just got recently engaged to a great guy from slovokia and got her this beautiful ring. very intricate, and big. she asked him if they would just get a small band for the wedding. he was appalled when she told him that they wear BOTH rings on the same finger! in his culture the engagement ring goes on the right hand after the wedding ceremony! he even bought it in the 'right hand dinner rings' section in the jewelry store!
