I think that your key has cracked inside the switch, or maybe there is a broken or stuck tumbler. Ignition switches are VERY difficult to work on, but maybe try spraying some pb blaster or liquid wrench into the key hole and working the switch back and forth, but don't pull on the key too hard or you might break it off inside the switch, in which case you would almost certainly have to disassemble the steering column to remove the switch. If you normally have to pull a lever or push a button to release the key, then it is likely that that mechanism is broken.

    • I hav a 2001 grand prix gtp supercharger and my key is stuck in the run position, won't turn back or come out. tried all the other ideas and NOTHING has worked at all. I had to disconnect the battery to save the power!! I don't know what to do and i can't afford to put it in the shop.
