If an alcoholic forgets everything due to a head injury, will he or she still be addicted to alcohol?

    Yes. In addition to a social dependence, alcoholics develop a physical resistance to alcohol, and withdrawal from alcohol can cause tremors, hallucinations, sweating, nausea and vomiting, and perhaps most worrying, detox-related psychosis which may render the person violent or suicidal.

    • To some extent yes. Surely you have been in the position when you first started drinking and were a 'cadbury'(glass and a half) and maybe as your drinking progressed it took more to get you drunk. Its a similar thing when you stop drinking for long periods of time and then start again- it is easier to get drunk.
