My goldfish have recently started hanging out on the bottom. They perk up when I come near the tank, but go back down. Water test is good.

You're reading Every time I go to a pet store to buy a goldfish, they always have them in a tank with an air pump. When I get them home and put them in a "goldfish bowl" they always die. Why is this? Is it because I don't have an air pump?

Cold won't hurt goldfish. But sudden cold will. They're sensitive to sudden changes. Mine live outside year round. If the surface ices up i have to break the surface, but the cold won't harm them.. they just go into hibernation sort of.. they slow down to about 1 heart beat an hour or something like that..
