wow, seems a little over-the-top for trespassing. the cod are already gone and it wasn't just the Spanish, but pulling shit like that can give a country a bad reputation. funny, nobody seems to even talk about all that anymore. We sent destroyers out to get the Spanish during the Turbot wars ten years ago, but I don;t know if we fired on them.

ya, the Spanish were using nets that caught fish waaaaayyyyy smaller than our law allowed. Some friends of mine were out there on a boat covering it for City-Tv out of Toronto.

The mesh size used was illegal and where they were fishing was as well. King, I'm Canadian. I don't recall there being any other vessels in the vicinity of the ship's arrest but there certainly were a few news crew on hand when we brought them back. That wasn't the only time shots were actually fired. I know of at least one other instance. The Spanish skippers used a hit and run tactic on the Banks. The only way they'd stop if we were even lucky enough to be nearby was doing some shooting. Most of the time they got out 201 kms and just hold there, waiting for us to leave. Frustrating. It drove the CG's nuts too.

there was a news crew on scene with enviro's on it out there, trust me, but the way it goes down, is that one channel gets the shots, and it wouldn't be broadcast nationally, just on CityTv and Bob's dead now, so.....

Must be another incident then, perhaps the one I mentioned I knew of but wasn't present for. There were no other vessels besides us and the Spaniard. We weren't joined until morning, the next day and that was an Ice Breaker. No heleos either. Only one up was ours.
