Is there a polite way of not giving your opinion to a friend who really wants it?

    Yes. One of the following reasons, not neccessary excuses would be true and if intended in the right way should not offend your friend.
    1)I'm sorry, I just don't understand enough to define my belief, I haven't really though about it.
    (This is likely true and honesty is the best policy)
    2) Let me think about it a little bit...
    3) Do what you think is right, I am sorry but I really cannot be of very much help...

    These three are honest ways of things and, may not get him/her off your back about it, but will honesty let them know you just don't want to give your opinion.
