with this being December ,you are most likely in the brace by now .The first year I had mine I hated it and after that I realized that this brace was to be a part of my life for the next several years, and once you just resign your self to the fact that it is not for ever and just accept it as a fact of life for the next fair few years and get over it ,you wont even be bothered by it .I did my first series from age 7 to age 27.At the age of 37 I was in an industrial accident ,and the company doctor decided to put me into a Milwaukee brace for the next few years ,as an adjunct to my ongoing P.T..,an that was just seven years ago ,I am now 44 &1/2,and will be able to stop using this brace in another five years ,but at this point I would rather be wearing it than not ,as when I am wearing it I can work and play softball, baseball and fish and do all sorts of stuff ,except water-ski.So don't fight the brace ,your doc ,your rents ,or yourself .this brace is not all that bad, I know, as I have spent over one half of my life in one ,and will likely spend most of the rest of it in one as well you see what started out as congenital scoliosis ,eventually degraded into severe chronic Osteo-arthritis .as far as an answer to your your question ,I always thought of it as a big constant hug ,I wear mine 23 hours per day with an hour out to shower et.c.,I also take it off for swimming and contact sports ,but not for tennis or basket ball, after a while you will pretty much know what you can do in the brace and what not to try .I hope this is of some help and just enjoy your brace because you will be done with it soon.when you start getting frustrated with it just think of me ,and my having been in one for more than half of my life .best of luck and hang in there .
