The normal gestation time for cats is 50-78 days, with the average being about 63 days. Implantation of the embryos occurs around the 12th day and pregnancy can be detected around the 20th day. About a week later, heartbeats can be discerned. When it is time for a queen to give birth, the process lasts between one and 36 hours. Occasionally, there can be a gap of 1-2 days between kittens.

Some cats ovulate during pregnancy. If she mates during this time, the queen will give birth to kittens of different ages. This phenomenon is called superfetation. Also, a queen can mate multiple times before fertilization occurs, leading to a litter of kittens fathered by different toms. This phenomenon is called superfecundation. Cats can also have a false pregnancy, during which all signs of a normal pregnancy are present, but no fetal heartbeat is detected after the 30th day. She will go into estrus again around the 45th day.

EDIT: kakaka, why the HELL would you rate this answer down? What's wrong with it? Are you mad because I rated down your answer that said to use a broom to clean up spilled mercury? Retaliating with spurious "somewhat useful" ratings is childish!

EDIT: lovescats, uh, yeah, that's what the answer says. Read it again and comprehend it.

"superfecundation - is having more then one father at the same birth." means the exact same thing as "a queen can mate multiple times before fertilization occurs, leading to a litter of kittens fathered by different toms. This phenomenon is called superfecundation."

    Also,
"superfetation- is having two different fathers, diff.age" means the exact same thing as "Some cats ovulate during pregnancy. If she mates during this time, the queen will give birth to kittens of different ages. This phenomenon is called superfetation."
