LOL, a nutritionist? There are NO studies that say it is bad to do atkins long term. Also, cholesterol and triglycerides go down when your on atkins. And your brain does not need carbs to function, it runs off of ATP, which can be made from any calorie. You are expected to eat green vegetables while on atkins, so that takes care of the vitamins. People who don't know the first thing about atkins should not comment on it.
Read up on the glycemic index and the body's insulin response in order to find out more behind the theory of atkins.

I have been doing Atkins for several months now. I have lost 50 lbs. and had no problems with cravings or wanting my beloved La Brea Bakery soudough baguettes after the first 3 days -- just like the literature says.
My husband is a gastroenterologist. He laughed over your comments about the brain needing carbs. M Seitz is right it runs off ATP which the body makes from any calories consumed. If we needed carbs, we would have died out at the caveman stage as meat is all they ate.
Lastly, I don't know where you dug up the "fact" people on Atkins "fart and burp a lot of smells" -- just what the hel_ are you talking about. I HAD digestive problems like that BEFORE I went on Atkins, I have ZERO problems now. My husband, the gastroenterologist says it is obvious my problem, LIKE ALOT OF PEOPLE, was the bread and other carbs I was eating BEFORE I went on Atkins.
Please stop talking about something you know NOTHING about !!!!!
