why?
by Anonymous on December 15th, 2006
Because it was poorly done, or because of the theme and content??

I didn't like Brokeback Mountain because I thought it was incredibly depressing. I don't think there was a single uplifting part in the entire movie.
by tekkie2800 on February 11th, 2007
Brokeback Mountain isn't everyone's taste but that doesn't make it the worst movie ever - just the worst one you've seen ;)
by Ausbabe on February 25th, 2007
It was pretty bad. When Cartman on South Park gives an accurate review of the film, you know it's not good!
by Beavis - the other white meat on February 10th, 2009
I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good.
by Pecks bad boy on July 25th, 2009
+6 I thought it was a fine, fine film -- one of the best I've seen. Interesting how people can highly disagree in likes/dislikes. But most movies I really like, most people hate and/or have never heard of. :) I highly disagree with others' comments here on what appear to be their reasons they find the movie bad -- but I'll not put words in their mouths. The question only asked what was the worst movie seen and the answer was given and comments followed - - OK. But for me, Brokeback Mountain is simply too fine of a film to even consider it anywhere near the worst I've seen. :)
by WelbyQuentin on July 25th, 2009
Hey Welby! I will grant that the cinematography was outstanding. Reminded me of Breaker Morant in that regard. There was something about it that just didn't work for me, & my wife made me watch it again, because she liked it & we usually have similar tastes. It wasn't the subject matter, it just seemed like a well made Chick flick with no chicks. I do agree that it's not the worst, though.
by Beavis - the other white meat on July 25th, 2009
That must be it - it has the Y and the R quality. :) Perhaps a well-made chick flick with no chicks is a good enough reason for me to like it, I don't know. No, that's not it. I've thought over the years why I like this film ( but will most likely only watch it once)and I can't pinpoint the reasons. But I found the film profound in its 'emptiness.' Like tekkie2800 mentioned, I found it very depressing, almost to numbing my senses. I left the theater in a similar numbed state as I did when I watched " Ordinary People." [ Another film I really like.]But BB - the repressed feelings, the consequences of not being true to yourself -- universal themes in many films -- and I found it done so well. Like I mentioned earlier, or at least tried to unsuccessfully, the very same reasons someone may like a film are the very same reasons, though 'turned-around,' that someone else will dislike it. I still can't see this film as "my" worst -but then I hate Forrest Gump & the rest of world loves him!:)
by WelbyQuentin on July 25th, 2009
Thanks for your help, Beavis. I'll never figure out why this movie 'moved' me so much -- to the point of my never wanting to see it again because of its excellence, if that makes any sense. Like "Ordinary People" -- once, I think, is enough -- for all the right reasons for me.
by WelbyQuentin on July 25th, 2009
I loved Breaker Morant. Excellent film. Forrest Gump sucked!
by Pecks bad boy on July 25th, 2009
You are right, Welby. Some works of art are like that. Then initial impression & emotional connection can never be recaptured & will be diluted if you try to tap it again.
by Beavis - the other white meat on July 25th, 2009
[ Wow, Pecks bad boy! Somehow I enjoy knowing someone else felt the same about Forrest. Though I'd still be comfortable even if I were the only one who despised the film - -ha! :) ] Breaker Morant - - another film I've yet to see -- you can all slap my wrists for not seeing that one, yet.

Two more for your consideration - American Beauty & Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil?
by Beavis - the other white meat on July 25th, 2009
[ Yes, Beavis -- you may be correct there about initial reactions. :)] I've not seen the Garden but have read the book. " American Beauty" I saw. Loved the music score by Thomas Newman. The movie itself I found a bit overrated, though I did enjoy it. [ I allowed Annette Bening's over-the-top ( to me ) performance ruin it a bit for me. I actually liked that 'flying paper bag' scene the best! Ha! ] 'Repressed emotions' certainly are/is a theme in that movie, yes! Yeah, I'm not kidding, you coincidentally brought up American Beauty -- it's one of those films for me that I "think" I don't like so well- - but when I ponder a bit more, I realize how much of it I enjoyed. :)
by WelbyQuentin on July 25th, 2009
You should check out "Everything Is Illuminated" It is like Shindler's list meets Borat. Not really lol. But an excellent unexpected film. One of my favorites. Have you guys seen In Brouges? another good one.
by Pecks bad boy on July 25th, 2009
Hey Pecks! Not too many people remember Breaker Morant. Great film & so beautifully shot!
by Beavis - the other white meat on July 25th, 2009
Beavis, I saw them both. excellent films.
by Pecks bad boy on July 25th, 2009
I haven't seen or even heard of Brouges.
by Beavis - the other white meat on July 25th, 2009
It is call "In Brouges." Colin Farrell is amazing in it.Best thing he has ever done. great film.

My Mom turned me on to Breaker Morant.
by Pecks bad boy on July 25th, 2009
in Burges (mis spelled it)
by Pecks bad boy on July 25th, 2009
I'm feeling quite an imbecile here, Pecks bad boy and Beavis - -- - I've never heard of "In Brouges" and " Everything Is Illuminated," along with not seeing "Breaking Morant," yet. :)
by WelbyQuentin on July 25th, 2009
Don't be. I am sure there are great films I never heard of too. I live in NYC and there are art films all over the place. I have been exposed to a lot, plus I am an actor and know people who turn me on to good films. I am a true film geek by the way.
by Pecks bad boy on July 25th, 2009
I was the same way with American Beauty. After viewing it, I thought it was overrated. However, I noticed that it kept popping up in my thoughts over the next several days, so there was a connection. I watched again & recognized it was a really good film.
I completely agree about Annette Benning. I would have prefered someone else in that role. Have you seen the film version of Richard III? One of the BEST screen versions of a Shakespearian play, but Benning is in it & sucks there too. Even so, it is a must see!
by Beavis - the other white meat on July 25th, 2009
Pecks correct, Welby! (Nice ring to that!) I haven't heard of either one. I live in the sticks & only have one friend, other than my wife, who appreciates the same things I do. One of the great things about AB is you never know when someone will turn you on to something new & interesting.
by Beavis - the other white meat on July 25th, 2009
I liked her in American beauty (Of course Spacey is one of the all around best actors around) and in Richard III. Loved Robert Downey Jr. in it too. He is always amazing. Ian Mckellen Outstanding performance!!!
