Actually, dark can travel faster than light. Here's how.

Imagine you're standing inside a large gymnasium with no ceiling. It's a bright day and as the birds fly over you see their shadows glide over the gymnasium floor and walls. You notice that the shadows on the ground move at the same speed as the birds, but the shadows on the walls have to move more quickly vertically in order to keep up with the birds as they move horizontally.

Well, if a bird was traveling at or near the speed of light, as its shadow moved vertically on the wall it would have to travel faster than the speed of light to keep up with the bird.
So, if objects can move at or near the speed of light, their shadows on perpendicular surfaces must go beyond light speed to keep up with them.
Voila! Dark is faster than light.
