How many octaves can the average person sing? How many for professional singers?

    I've heard that 2-3 octaves is the normal range for sopranos and high sops, and that a 4 octave range is extremely rare.

    • I am only 15 and ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a famous singer. I have never had lessons although I would love to get better.. I counted earlier today and I can sing 4 octaves and 3 more notes after that. I have much more confidence in myself and my capabilities now that I read this and I am going to pursue my dreams! :)
