Is there an effective limit to the length of the cable linking the PS2 and the router?

    The cable linking your PS2 and your router is most likely of the cat5 or cat5e variety using the ethernet protocol. Typically the maximum length of a cat5 cable is around 100 meters (330 feet) without a sharp degredation of performance(speed). You can use longer cords however you must expect a loss of speed/connectivity. Using cat5e cables will result in longer acceptable segments, however only marginally. For maximum performance suggested length is 10 meters (33 feet).

    However for a PS2 the effective limit would be closer to ther 100meter mark (perhaps beyond) because the ps2 will not require the full bandwidth afforded by the ethernet cable.
